Today on the invitation of the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht the whole school observed a minute of silence at midday, along with many other primary and post primary school throughout the country. This was in memory of all those who suffered loss during the  Famine; loss of lie, loss of family, loss of home and loss of country.

We were delighted to have Eileen Mc Gough available to come and speak to our senior classes, on behalf of the Tracton Genealogical and Local History Committee, about the impact of the Famine on the people of Traction. She gave a wonderful and interesting talk about the reality of life in the famine times and presented the school with a folder of information and photographs. The children were fascinated by the fact that it was about people and places so close to themselves, as they recognised  names of town-lands and families.

During our minute of silence we also remembered those who are suffering from famine and hunger today for many reasons.
